Hey Crash-ers,
This is “The Rapid 5” - Welcome! It’s our way of sharing ideas and thoughts, things we were working on, inspiration and learnings, something to laugh at, and things to up-skill us; it includes new songs, articles, and links to podcasts and books too.
After an overwhelming response to our first “Rapid 5” last week, we’ve decided to open the comments so you can add your thoughts, reactions, and ideas.
Don’t forget - if you’ve got a project you’d like us to share, we’d love to hear from you at rapid5@thehopefulrhino.com
5 things worth sharing this week.
LOVE // BEST JOURNALS EVER
Leuchtturm1917
If you watch the video about these journals, you’re sure to want one.
They’re beautifully designed and come in a bunch of colors, sizes, and line variations (ruled, squared, dotted, plain, and white lines or dots on grey).
I like dotted A5… in green, but Cass prefers the yellow ones.
The pages are numbered, which is excellent, and there are a bunch of perforated pages at the back in case you want to share a note with someone else. (Having said that, I would hate to rip pages out, even with the perforations 🤷♂️). They also come with a set of sticky labels to help with archiving, which is perfect!!
LISTEN // PLEAD THE BLOOD
Our friend Chris Davenport and some other friends have recently released a beautiful new song, Plead the Blood. It’s a strong declaration of the power of Jesus’ sacrifice. It’s an anthem that will inspire courage in us all.
What we love most about this song is that Chris said this:
“We wrote and added this section to the song only minutes before we recorded last year. And now it feels so unbelievably timely. The blood of Jesus is more than enough!”
“OVER MY CHILDREN, OVER MY FAMILY…
OVER MY FUTURE AND OVER MY BODY…
OVER OUR SCHOOLS AND OVER OUR CITIES…
OVER THE DARKNESS, OVER THE ENEMY…
I PLEAD THE BLOOD”
Words to sing in times when there are no words to sing.
Here are all the worship leader resources to sing it with your community.
LOOK // OLD TESTAMENT HELP
Not sure about you, but I’ve often found reading some sections of the Bible troubling, particularly in the Old Testament. In addition, the ethics we see in the modern world often seem challenging to align with what we read.
One book that I’ve returned to time and time again for help is called “At Home In A Strange Land” by Andrew Sloane. It covers all sorts of difficult topics like; slavery, holy war, and even cloning. It’s a challenging read but helpful in growing a robust, “whole-Bible” faith.
LAUGH // ONE WHEEL FUN?
It’s a little know fact that I can ride a unicycle. I don’t like to tell too many people because of the judgment that comes with the revelation. But I stumbled across this guy who jumped his electric unicycle across a ravine and had to share it with you all. Why? Because it’s both scary and fun to watch.
When did you last choose to do something you knew other people would laugh at you for? It’s a good exercise in moving beyond the fear of people.
While you think of your answer, click here to watch this guy almost land the jump! 😳
LEARN // THE EXTRAORDINARY WAYS RHYTHM SHAPES OUR LIVES
“Children who recognize differences in rhythm patterns and tap to a beat learn to read and spell more easily.”
God has inserted rhythm into the fabric of creation. It’s everywhere!! As it turns out, even in the post office. But how does it shape our lives? That’s what this article from MIT explores. It’s fascinating just how great an impact rhythm has on our lives. It is well worth a read.
THIS WEEK IN THE HOPEFUL RHINO JOURNALS
An oil painting of a tiger reveals hidden treasures which will change your life for good. And being “distracted by the goodness of God” will become a catalyst for pushing your life further down the right track. So this week, by looking through pain, choosing reinvention, and discovering the way Joseph saw the world, you’ll soon find a new way to see the absolute love of God everywhere.
Grace and Peace,
Rich & Cass
@richlangton that rhythm video is incredible makes my mind race with the kinds of things that are embedded in life... I remember Louie Giglio’s message indescribable and this video feels a little in that vein
Ahhh, I’ve found my people! Leuchtturm1917 journals are thee best! Pink for me (can’t find white anymore ) with blank pages. The page numbers and spine stickers are life changing.
