The Church Absolutely Needs Your Gift More Than Ever
The Monday Motivator: Don't Let Creativity Disappear From The Church.
Hey friends,
Truthfully this made me tear up a bit as I wrote about a Church was no creativity. It would be worse than you first think. Does that make me weird? Maybe…. but I think it mostly show’s my overwhelming gratitude to God.
What for? Keep reading…
Dear Creative,
Imagine if the creativity went missing.
If, no music came from the platform.
No one sang.
No one wrote.
No one lifted hands in worship because there was nothing to sing along with.
The screens were blank.
No lyrics to follow.
No scriptures elegantly timed.
No sermon slides… just a blinking cursor that never moved.
The chapel sat grey, unlit and unwelcoming.
No stained glass windows.
No thoughtful lighting.
No banner declaring a season of hope.
The seats weren’t arranged, still sitting in soulless stacks.
There were no welcome signs, no flowers by the door.
No bulletin, no announcement screen.
No story captured, edited, and shared to inspire.
The preacher still stepped up.
But the sermon was thoughtless… all truth, no tone, no craft.
No metaphor. No moment of connection.
The Word, still powerful, but not clothed in imagination.
There were no candles.
No colour at Christmas.
No confetti at baptisms.
No joyful noise from kids performing their nativity play.
The building still stood.
The Spirit still moved.
But something essential had gone missing.
Because creativity is not an accessory to the Church. It is part of its lifeblood.
A gift from the Creator, entrusted to His people.
And you, yes, you, are one of those people.
Even if you don’t call yourself a creative.
But if you've ever chosen a font, folded a handout, planned a moment, or prayed over a transition, you’ve contributed more than you know.
If you've ever pushed a fader, tuned a guitar, aligned a lighting cue, filmed a testimony, baked a cake, styled a table, or imagined a better way… you’ve helped people see God.
So today, I can’t help but say:
If you weren’t there, we’d miss you.
We’d all miss you!
We’d miss the set creator and the social post writer.
We’d miss the costume designer and the caption-timer.
We’d miss the calligrapher and the Canva experimenter.
The choreographer, the coder, the communion preparer.
We’d miss the photographer and videographer.
Those who frame baptisms, testimonies, altar calls.
We’d miss the editor who made the story meaningful.
We’d miss the creativity of the admin who turned chaos into calm.
We’d miss the project manager who knew their role was ministry.
The elder who prayed with poetic pose.
The youth pastor who’s sermon was larger than life with imagination.
The volunteer who printed flyers that actually made people smile.
We’d miss the color. The beauty. The boldness. The whispers of God made visible.
Creativity in the Church isn’t just lights and lyrics, music and songs.
It’s the Spirit of Genesis 1 still at work, bringing order to chaos, light to darkness, and shape to the void.
It’s imagination surrendered to God for the good of others.
And the Church is richer, deeper, more welcoming and more worshipful because of it.
So thank you.
For showing up.
For trying again.
For offering your sketch, your song, your spreadsheet, your faith.
It’s not nothing.
It’s all needed.
And we thank God for you.
Grace and peace,
Rich (& Cass)
