The good, the bad, and the ugly!

In late 2024, a psychologist friend told us we needed a good process for transition.

In the Langton household, life had looked one way for twenty-seven years, until, all of a sudden, it looked very different. Our friend told us that moving on would take time, attention, and intention. Twenty-seven years in one place is, after all, a long time to spend in one culture. Her advice was journaling.

But not the usual kind.

This was going to feel a bit different.

She told us to get out two journals.

The first one was for the junk - the heartaches and hurt, the injustice, the sad and the mad… we were to scribble, write, journal, cry, get angry, let it all out… process the years, write all we could until we had no more words to write… and when it was done, we were to burn the journal. Properly burn it, wholly and totally. We were to watch it disintegrate in the fire. There was to be no way to relive what was gone.

Okay, done… ✅

And this is where it gets fun!

After that, she told us to take a clean, fresh journal.

In the second one, we were to write about all the wonder, the learnings, the life lessons, and all that we were grateful for from those twenty-seven years. We were to include all the joy, triumphs, and gratitude.

So today, we thought we would invite you to peek inside that second journal and join us on the 27 things that we have learned from our time as the Global Worship and Creative Pastors at Hillsong Church and all that we will carry forward into the future.

(Psst. Don’t forget to check out our exclusive self-reflection tool at the end of this article. You’re going to love it!)
