I’ve had countless conversations with people crying out for some direction.
It’s often the same story:
They love God, really want to honor and serve him, but then…
Life happens, they lose sight of the horizon, and then begin to feel disoriented.
It’s a spiritual kind of disorientation.
I can remember times in my own life in recent years when I’ve felt that way.
It happened without trying.
Have you ever heard of spatial disorientation?
I read about it for the first time a few years back. Apparently, it happens when a pilot flies into fog or cloud cover and loses the ability to trust what they’re seeing... or possibly what they’re not seeing 😳.
When this happens, with no clear horizon, many young pilots start second-guessing their instruments. They make small adjustments. Then more. Before they know it, they’ve flown out of the cloud completely upside down.
The wild part? They didn’t feel it happening.
Oftentimes, when it comes to our faith, that’s what happens when you can’t see clearly. If you’re like most people, you stop trusting your “gauges”. You start to rely on instinct instead of truth. And slowly, subtly, you drift off course.
Think about it…
❌ A conversation throws you.
❌ A season stretches you.
❌ A relationship confuses you.
❌ The path ahead gets murky.
And even though the “dials” are still there… all the things you know to trust, like God’s Word, prayer, community, the voice of the Holy Spirit, you stop trusting them. Or maybe you’re just too exhausted by life to even notice you’re flying blind.
If that’s you, take heart this Monday (or Tuesday, depending on where you are in the world). Fog is part of the journey, not the end of it.
Clarity can come back to you!
But it usually doesn’t arrive on demand.
And there’s one thing we don’t often talk about, but it is vital to a life of clarity.
Later this week, we’re sharing a brand new post called “The Water Diviners” with our inner circle members. It’s about listening beneath the surface, learning to seek again when the land feels dry, and finding hope in unexpected places.
